Day 31/60: Get Balling With Your Whole Body

Sitting For Too Long?

Sitting too long is a self-defeating habit. Whether it’s in front of the computer or office work, locking yourself into a repetitive position without varying your movements can lead to musculoskeletal hell. In this 60-day cleanse, no matter what I do, I want to keep rolling and going with the flow.

When you have to sit for quite a while to do things, I suggest using certain props like an exercise ball or a wobble cushion to get balling with your whole body. You can see my video on Facebook, where I show you so many cool things you can do with this ball.

Exercise Ball For Sitting

The idea is to keep your body moving even when you are sitting. Using an exercise ball for sitting allows continuous movement of your body. It is actually a great exercise you can do to keep your musculoskeletal system in greater balance. And what if you don’t have a ball? If you are sitting upright, You can still move your butt in all directions and employ bobbling your butt along with breath consciousness. Then make sure you are connecting your feet and legs to the butt movement.

This is a good size ball for this individual. See how the pelvis lines up with the knees and the thighs are at right angles to the legs.

But with a ball there can be much more movement and also there’s an element of fun when you bounce. What’s more, you’ll be on the ball and that can give you a burst of confidence for your day.

The exercise ball (aka yoga ball, Swiss ball, balance ball, body ball, fitness ball, gym ball, gymnastic ball, pilates ball, stability ball, and others) uniquely mixes up the repetitive movements of your body. You can rotate your pelvis back and forth and side to side. Each part of your body moves while sitting by connecting your feet to whatever direction the ball goes.

So what size ball should I get? In the photo above, the body on the ball has the thigh and leg at a 90-degree angle. When you purchase a ball, there will be a sizing chart and there are general guidelines on what size according to your height. I encourage everyone to get a ball for yourself, so it will keep you healthier and more comfortable. Feel free to purchase the URBNFit Exercise Ball that I use and recommend.

Wobble Cushion

Another fantastic prop is the wobble cushion (aka a stability disc, wobble disc, wiggle seat cushion, balance disc, and others). I like the wobble cushion because it’s compact, effective, and easy to use. By its design, you have to keep your pelvis moving. This can work in many sitting situations, and can even be used in a car. This is not necessarily meant to be used continuously, but to give the sitting position more variations of movement while you sit. It pushes you to keep moving in your stagnant chair-bound postures.

The wobble cushion pictured above is filled with air that can be adjusted to your preference.

In the beginning, you may want to sit on your new wobble cushion for several hours but I suggest you pace yourself. Try using the wobble cushion intermittently. See what works best for you. Hey, you can even try standing on it for a few seconds as a balancing exercise.

These stability discs are cheap and a remedy to help induce movement to all the prisoners of the chair. Use this link to place an order for your wobble cushion.
